ART
The study of art and design is an important part of a well-rounded school education, and complements the more academic subjects by providing a creative and practical environment. This encourages individual students to acquire a sense of worth and achievement and flourish in an atmosphere of self-expression and creativity.
The Art Department comprises three multi-purpose art and design teaching rooms:
- Senior Art Room 501 - Senior Building
- Junior Art Room 121 - Main Building
- Pottery Room 601 - Pavilion
Dedicated art ICT equipment comprises a graphics suite in the Junior and Senior Art Rooms.
The department runs a variety of after-school art clubs for all year groups, eg. pottery, textiles and life drawing. The department is also open after school and during the Christmas and Easter holidays, from KS4 and KS5 students to complete coursework. Links with the Pre-Prep have been forged and the sharing of good practice for the creation of displays, schemes of work and talks for aiding their “art week” are in place. Students’ artwork is exhibited around the school and has even been entered into and been awarded national prizes. Each half term, students from the Pre-Prep to the 13s are chosen to represent their year group and be the “Artist of the Term”.
