SCIENCE
Science is taught as a core subject from Pre-Prep to GCSE. From Year 7 to GCSE pupils are taught separate science subjects - Biology, Chemistry and Physics - in five well-equipped, modern laboratories and as single subjects to A level. Visits to nearby venues, such as the Wetlands Centre and the Natural History and Science Museums, ensure that pupils gain valuable scientific experience beyond the classroom.
The study of science is an important way to enhance our understanding of the world around us. The department encourages students to develop the skills that will equip them for an increasingly scientific world. Located in the picturesque cloisters buildings, science is taught in 5 well-equipped specialist laboratories, including a dedicated A-Level laboratory.
Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught by subject specialists from KS3 to A-Level. Trips to the Natural History and Science Museums are regularly undertaken, and we aim to run a program of extra-curricular activities every term that is designed to showcase the “fun side” of science, eg. “bug club”, “pops and bangs”, CSI and many more!
The department believes in encouraging students to develop their own values and attitudes in relation to scientific advances, by exploring the moral, social and ethical implications of research. We also believe that the investigative and analytical skills acquired will be transferable to all other areas of the curriculum.
