EXAMINATIONS AND ASSESSMENT
The Harrodian has an outstanding record of enabling a very high proportion of 13+, 16+ and 18+ leavers to gain entry to their first choice next school, university or college. Harrodian pupils have gone to highly competitive public day- and boarding-schools, some through scholarships (results available on request). Parents are asked to make the School fully aware of next school preferences when pupils join so preparation may be thorough and in good time. Pupils planning to stay at the Harrodian are prepared similarly and also take relevant examinations. All pupils preparing for internal and external examinations and assessments are given examination and interview practice.
Sixth form pupils are also advised and assisted in university and other further education choices together with the completion of UCAS forms. Prospective Oxbridge students are similarly prepared for entry.
Informal continual assessment starts in the Pre-Prep and formal end of year examinations are introduced when pupils enter the Lower Prep in the 8s (Year 4).
At the end of the Prep School pupils in the 12s (Yr 8) sit the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB) Common Entrance 13+ to graduate to the Senior School. The examination provides valuable experience in examination, study and revision techniques and an excellent foundation for the challenges of GCSE study.
In the Senior School examinations and assessments become more frequent and formal as pupils approach GCSEs in the 15s (Yr 11). Tests are often half-termly and parents receive constant feedback on progress.
Most pupils sit a full range of GCSEs in the 15s, although some pupils may sit GCSEs early by arrangement with the School.
Sixth Formers study for A levels in their chosen subjects and normally sit for AS in the Lower Sixth and A2 in the Upper Sixth.
