Prep Sport

In the Prep School we put the emphasis on fun and enjoyment and establishing a lifelong love of sport. We want all pupils to achieve their full physical health potential and to develop fundamental movement and sports-specific skills. At Prep level, Harrodian offers a wide range of activities and opportunities to compete from intra-house friendly matches through to competing in county and national competitions. We know that our pupils can contribute to sport by taking on different roles such as leader, captain, umpire and coach and aim to assist pupils in developing exercise patterns that will contribute to a healthy lifestyle and to provide the knowledge to make healthy lifestyle choices. Our ambition is for all children to come to their Sport and PE lessons feeling positive, encouraged and, most of all, happy.

Team spirit is a special ingredient in Harrodian culture and it underpins the way we approach sports education throughout the school. We pride ourselves on an inclusive and supportive environment, which gives all pupils the chance to take part in a wide range of sporting activities in a positive and challenging setting throughout their school careers. Our teachers approach their work with sensitivity and enthusiasm and aim both to inspire in our pupils a love and knowledge of sport and to educate them about the many benefits that participation can have on their long-term health and well-being. Harrodian also aims to instil key strategic skills and character qualities in our pupils — among them: planning, organisation and communication, bravery, resilience and teamwork — that are as crucial to success in the wider world as they are on the playing field.

Curriculum

The curriculum is tailored to each section of the school. Prep School pupils (8s-12s) are offered a range of activities, each of which is modified to meet the needs and abilities of the particular year group. These activities include health related fitness, football, netball, rugby, hockey, basketball, swimming, athletics, cross country, tennis, cricket, dance, gymnastics, fencing and judo.
