Welcome to PP3O

Class Teacher: Mrs Jenny O'Neill
Assistant: Mrs Rosemary Yarde Leavett
Class Reps: Mrs Nichola Harris and Mrs Lyn Snudden

Welcome to PP3O and Year 3. We have an exciting year ahead of us, with trips to the National Portrait Gallery and the Imperial War Museum already in the diary, plus a visit by the Architectural Workshop, where we will be making a super –sized Viking Longboat.
During our Literacy lessons we will be looking at a wide range of writing styles –from biographies and newspaper headlines to short stories and poetry and in Numeracy we will be learning a range of strategies to help us work with 3 and 4 digit numbers. We will also be drawing bar graphs and interpreting data, as well as working with time, shape and measurement.
Our other topics include Teeth and Healthy Eating in Science , The Vikings in History lessons and in R.E. we will study Divali. This topic will also form the basis of our assembly.
There will also be weekly circle time sessions with the other Year 3 class. The aim of these lessons is to help children prepare for life in the eights (Year 4.) We will discuss such topics as: new beginnings, friendship, goals and targets. This will be followed up the next morning with a half an hour "open door" session where the children will continue to ask each other questions and continue the discussion independently.
Homework in the 3s is set on a weekly basis. It includes spelling, a maths problem, a piece of literacy – perhaps a short piece of writing, a comprehension or some research - and finally a times table. It will be sent home in a folder each Monday and can be returned either on a daily basis or on the following Monday morning.

It will be a busy and exciting academic year. Mrs Yarde-Leavett our Classroom Assistant and myself look forward to welcoming the children to their new class and hope that parents and visitors come into the classroom to look at our on-going projects and artwork.
