This half term we have done some amazing art work, there is not a space left on the classroom walls! The snow was our first inspiration, then we looked at Van Gogh’s Sunflower painting and made our own studies of tulips in paint, pastel and chalk. We combined literacy and art and made some Owl and the Pussy-Cat collages, Rapunzel watercolours, and Jack and the Beanstalk paintings.
Science has been so exciting because we have learned all about electricity. Everyone made a circuit and all the light bulbs lit up, then we saw how many bulbs we could add to the circuit, and even added a switch to turn them off and on. Finally we added a motor and created a propeller.
In Geography we discovered what it must be like to live on a remote island off the coast of Scotland called Coll. There are so few cars that there is grass in the middle of the road! We also monitored the weather everyday in Barnes and then saw what the weather was like in Coll. We can tell you that there were mostly stratus clouds and lots of snow in January and February.
Literacy Week was a real highlight. We heard stories from Grimm’s Fairy Tales from a fantastic story teller in a story tent. We did some creative drama with Perform, but the most thrilling thing was a letter from Jack who asked us to plant some magic beans so the scary giant would not eat him for roast lunch. The first day we planted the magic beans roses appeared the next morning. The next day we did not follow the instructions and a rock was in the plant pot. The last day we followed the instructions correctly and that was the best day of all because a sweetie tree grew; we had a lovely breaktime that day. Jack was very pleased with our efforts at planting and we also wrote some wonderful imaginative stories.

On Saturday 6th June 2009, the Harrodian School celebrated its 15th anniversary with a Charity Summer Ball. The event was organised and hosted by a dedicated committee of four parents together with the Harrodian School Parent's Association. The occasion also marked ten years of dynamic and inspiring leadership by the Headmaster, James Hooke and the Principal, Peter Thomson.
