Coming Up...

We have also booked a very exciting interactive drama workshop to come and visit the two classes in conjunction with our history topic this term - 'Seaside Holidays In The Past'. The children will have the opportunity to explore the seaside through role-play as Victorian school children that have never been to the beach before and then embark on their first trip.

We are also lucky enough to have a scientist coming in to play the part of Gene Cernan who was the last man on the moon. Gene will be talking of his journey and experiences of getting to the moon as part of the Apollo Space Missions. This opportunity to relive a journey of great adventure is enhanced by costumes and stories and is sure to be a super afternoon!

Summer Term so far...

Exploring London Science Museum

On Monday 10th May PP2 visited the London Science Museum to consolidate our Science Learning so far this year.

We spent the morning in the 'hands-on-gallery' Garden Learning Zone where the children enjoyed an array of activities from investigating floating and sinking to experiencing dancing shadows as well as exploring construction, water, light and sound.

We will also be able to explore the rest of the museum in small adult led groups.

After lunch we revisited our 'health and growth' learning and meet 'Jones the Bones' in a drama presentation to find out all about the wonders of the human body.

It was a fantastic trip and we all really enjoyed exploring the exciting museum environment.

Art Week in PP2C

During Art Week PP2C studied the work of Chris Ofili. Chris Ofili is a Turner Prize winning British painter best known for artworks referencing his Nigerian Heritage, particularly his incorporation of elephant dung.

Deborah from Art Yard helped us experiment with patterns and shapes in a similar way to Chris Ofili as well as teaching us to play with exciting Caribbean inspired colours

We started on paper and then moved on to stain our canvases with different coloured inks.

We let our canvases dry and then moved on to use thicker poster paints and brightly coloured acrylic paints (we were very careful not to get them on our clothes!)

When we had created lots of interesting patterns and pictures we went on to layer our canvases with lots of glue and glitter! It was great fun...

But not as much fun as it was to have a go at making our very own elephant poo!! We used clay and straw to intersperse together to make an effective look-a-like! Miss Horan was not a fan...

It was a fantastic week and we are very proud of the stunning results!

Spring Term

Here in PP2C, we have had a wiz-tastic action packed Spring Term. We have survived snow, wind and ice and are still smiling!

Easter Concert

PP2C took to the stage again at the end of term – this time as a part of our Easter Extravaganza. They quick stepped the Lambeth Walk and made it back on for the finale 'Thank You For The Music.' A huge thanks to our class reps Liz Whiting and Louise Tierney for their help and creativity with the hair, make up and costumes – the children looked fabulous!

Easter Bonnet Parade

The sun came out in style as PP2C strode out sporting their Easter Bonnets. The children looked wonderful and enjoyed the chance to be in spotlight as well as basking in the glorious sunshine.

Science Day

On Tuesday 9th March Gary The Clown came to visit PP2C along with a bag full of exciting electrical circuits. The children worked hard in groups to build and operate solar powered light bulb circuits much to their delight. It was an action packed and fun filled morning.

Here in PP2C we have had a wiz-tastic action packed first half of the Spring Term. We have survived snow, wind and ice and are all still smiling!

Broadway

We are a bunch of performers at heart and love the opportunity to get on stage and proudly show off our hard work. This term we celebrated Chinese New Year for our Class Assembly. We learnt lots about the traditions and legends behind the festivities and enjoyed getting creative in the art department!.

We also shimmied on stage for our Dance Show. Our class dressed up as animals from the Lion King and worked hard to learn an elegant dance with Miss Edwards.

Literacy Week…

Literacy week was a real highlight, Alastair from 'The Story Tent' told us some fantastic stories from Grimm’s Fairy Tales. We took part in some creative drama with Phillius Fogg from a theatre company called Perform; we heard a real author read us her own stories; and we dressed up as our favourite book characters to celebrate in a book character assembly parade. However, the most thrilling thing was a letter from Jack and The Beanstalk! He asked us to plant some magic beans so the scary giant would not eat him for Sunday lunch! Come and ask us what happened when we planted the magic beans…

We Love Numbers…

In PP2C we have been learning about times tables for the first time! We are now pretty snappy at our ‘2’ and ‘10’ times tables and will know our ‘5’ times tables as well by the end of the year!

Fire Fire…

We have been learning about The Great Fire of London in our topic lessons. We have learnt lots of interesting facts about how and why the fire started and we have had great fun making our own fire engines in Design Technology - so there is no chance of The Harrodian going up in smoke!

During the second half of the Spring Term, PP2C learnt about:

  • Science – Plants and animals in the local environment
  • Geography – An island home
  • History – Summer Term
  • Art – Mother Nature
  • RE - Judaism
  • PSHE - Choices

Subject specialist teachers will continue to lead the children in their learning for French, ICT, Music and Sport.

What else do we get up to?

We visit the library once a week and Mrs. Powell helps us to choose and borrow books. There are lots of exciting titles and hundreds of interesting authors. The junior library is open from 8am so children can also ask their parents to help them change their books before school.

We are very green fingered in PP2C and we have really enjoyed helping Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Scott in the allotment.
