Year 8 - Sculpture modroc (Part 1)

based on a study of shells

The starting point for the making of these sculptures by 12W (Year 8) was a series of line and tonal drawings from direct observation of a variety of shells on display in the art room. In exploring these natural forms, pupils have selected and abstracted qualities in response to their own sculptures.

In addition the class visited the recent Anish Kapoor exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art, London and this exciting work also inspired them to develop ideas of shape and form in their own work. We were delighted that Anish Kapoor found time in his busy schedule to meet the group at the Royal Academy and accompany them around his exhibition, answering their questions about his work and ideas.

The following list of adjectives was compiled by the class in response to looking at Anish Kapoor's sculptures:
Vivid Lumpy Oily Vibrant
Carrion Shimmering Unsettling Greasy
Bulbous Coiled Puzzling Squidgy
Monochrome Illusion Elongated Polished
Pregnant Blur Snakes Decayed
Pigment Wet Glittery Hollow
Violent Dizzying
