Drama offers a physical, intellectual and imaginative freedom that is unique; students are able to engage and explore the world they live in. Drama is a mode of inquiry that allows a creative, practical and emotional investigation that is a boon to self-confidence and fosters a deeper understanding of society. The study of drama in the classroom is complemented by the range of extra curricular activities and productions on offer throughout the school, including performing at the Edinburgh Festival.
Prep School Curriculum
In the prep school students explore the fundamental ideas and forms of drama. Through exercises, improvisation, scripts and issue led schemes of work they are given the opportunity to develop their practical skills and broaden their understanding of their environment. This journeying will take them from storytelling through physical theatre to Shakespeare.
Senior School Curriculum
Students in the senior school are exposed to a wide range of performance practice, allowing a deeper understanding of both the practical skills and the theory that lies at the heart of contemporary performance. There is a full exploration of style and genre including naturalism, epic, mask work, junk opera and Forum theatre. Students at GCSE and A Level are expected to create and perform practical pieces and are taken to the theatre on a regular basis to develop their analysis of live performance. Throughout, there is the study and practical implementation of the ideas of practitioners such as Brecht, Artaud and Brook. At A Level students will also consider the production history of performance and the art of directing.
On Saturday 6th June 2009, the Harrodian School celebrated its 15th anniversary with a Charity Summer Ball. The event was organised and hosted by a dedicated committee of four parents together with the Harrodian School Parent's Association. The occasion also marked ten years of dynamic and inspiring leadership by the Headmaster, James Hooke and the Principal, Peter Thomson. 
During the Spring half term 24 children and 4 teachers from the senior school embarked on another China adventure. The itinerary took in the modern delights of Shanghai, Xian, the Ancient capital of China, where we were amazed at the sight of the Terracotta Warriors dating back to 210BCE, and the beautiful Buddhist Wild Goose Pagoda.
