This qualification encourages an adventurous and enquiring approach to Art and Design that encourages independence and self-discovery. Its structure allows for the pupil to develop and learn about their own creative ideas and interests, develop research skills and an awareness of the contexts they live within, and to communicate thoughts and ideas visually through chosen mediums.
It is important that students have their own ideas about the work they are making and enjoy looking at contemporary art as well as more classical or traditional eras.
Prep School Curriculum
Students look at the main formal elements within Art and Design and use a variety of 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional materials. Artists are referenced throughout all the tasks set to underpin their responses. Observational drawing and design tasks are set with some printing and collage.
Senior School Curriculum
'Collections Project' including: drawing in a range of materials; painting, and the use of colour and mark; the study of artists and analysis; a gallery visit; photography; a final piece in acrylic.
'Old/New Project including researching the context of the theme; drawing and recording ideas in response; analysis of artists; a gallery visit; photography; a final piece in mixed media.
Advanced level
This course will enable students to explore a range of two and three-dimensional approaches in their artwork and learnt skills during the GCSE years.
Skills that are extended are painting, drawing, and recording from observation. Printing, three dimensional work and photography are a firm part of the course alongside the use of film or digital art if this interests the student.
Pupils are taken on gallery visits to support the projects and are also expected to attend shows in their own time as part of independent study.
On Saturday 6th June 2009, the Harrodian School celebrated its 15th anniversary with a Charity Summer Ball. The event was organised and hosted by a dedicated committee of four parents together with the Harrodian School Parent's Association. The occasion also marked ten years of dynamic and inspiring leadership by the Headmaster, James Hooke and the Principal, Peter Thomson. 
During the Spring half term 24 children and 4 teachers from the senior school embarked on another China adventure. The itinerary took in the modern delights of Shanghai, Xian, the Ancient capital of China, where we were amazed at the sight of the Terracotta Warriors dating back to 210BCE, and the beautiful Buddhist Wild Goose Pagoda.
