Harrodian rocks!

Audiences were blown away by this term's production of School of Rock. There were amazing performances by a cast of 40 Harrodian pupils, ranging in ages from 9 to 15 years old. The main part, Dewey Finn, was played by Ed from our 13s (Year 9).

As well as remembering a huge number of lines, Ed acted, sang, played guitar and performed a cappella, all to a professional level. No small feat for a 13 year old! Lauren, from our 15s (Year 11), starred as Mrs Mullins, Headmistress of Horace Green School, and sang her note-perfect solo 'Where Did the Rock Go?' with great accomplishment.

The younger members of the cast, who played specific parts in the band, gave such assured and impressive performances that it was hard to believe that their average combined age was only 10 years old. The instrumentalists also faced the added challenge of playing live on stage (no miming allowed!). Two of them, Rosalie (10s) and Julian (11s), learnt new instruments (bass guitar and keyboards) specifically for their parts in the production.

It was a great challenge for Harrodian to take on the School of Rock, with all its demands on the cast, as well as complex staging and technical requirements, but nevertheless a challenge that they all rose to and which resulted in a performance that exceeded all expectations. A huge thank you to our amazing team of staff - Mrs Ashe (Director of Music), Mr Glen (Head of Drama) and Ms Edwards (Choreographer and Dance Specialist) who made it all possible. Please read our interview with them here.

On asking several pupils and parents afterwards if they had enjoyed it, many of them said that there was no reason to go to the West End when you could see such an amazing show at Harrodian!
