COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PARENTS AND SCHOOL
The Harrodian prides itself on its school/parents liaison and has an open-access policy. All new parents and children are given a full information pack, and the pack items are reissued from time to time as necessary. "The Harrodian Newsletter" is issued several times each term to all pupils. Children are encouraged to contribute and are given opportunities to edit or be otherwise involved. Parent bulletins, often accompanied by a Parents' Committee letter, are also sent out during term-time and with each holiday mailing.
The Harrodian prides itself on its open door policy and encourages strong links between staff and parents. If parents have any concerns about their child at school, they should first speak to their Form Teacher. Informal meetings can usually take place at the beginning or end of the school day, but occasionally, due to time constraints and other commitments, it may be necessary to make an appointment.
For more formal meetings parents are asked to arrange them direct with the Form Teacher, Head of Year or Head of Department (for academic matters). Should the matter need to go any further, it is brought to the attention of the Head of Pre-Prep, Head of Lower Prep (8s to 10s), Head of Seniors, Deputy Headmistress/Director of Studies or the Headmaster.
Parents may also be contacted from time-to-time by subject teachers, Heads of Year, Form Teachers, etc if the need arises.
The School produces a Parent Bulletin at the beginning of each half-term containing details of forthcoming events, changes in staff and any general information regarding the School. A newsletter is sent to parents three times a year showing the highlights of the previous term’s events.
Most letters and notices are sent home to parents via children (please check bags regularly to ensure all have reached you). Occasionally letters are posted home to parents providing detailed information appropriate to a specific age group.
Parents are asked to notify the School office immediately in writing of any change of address or telephone number.
PARENTS’ EVENINGS
A parents’ evening for each year group is held at least once a year. These meetings usually take place during the Autumn and Spring Terms. Staff are available between 4.15 and 6.00 p.m. and from 6.45 to 8.00 p.m. The last appointment is at 7.55 p.m. Parents are asked to note that children may not be in school after 5.00 p.m. as we are unable to offer supervision.
Details of dates are available in the Parent Bulletin at the beginning of each term.
