EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
The extension and enrichment programme includes a wide range of sporting and cultural activities and tours at home and overseas.
The Harrodian is renowned for its sporting prowess, the school is fortunate to be surrounded by 25 acres of playing fields as well as two all weather pitches, including netball, basketball and tennis courts. The school has grown over the last few years and this has been reflected in the sporting context. Our top teams have achieved success at high levels and we also pride ourselves on the availability of competitive fixtures for all.
The Sixth Form has a sports afternoon each Wednesday and a wide range of activities run throughout the year including football, netball, hockey, basketball, rugby, tennis, rounders, swimming, cricket and athletics. We are also developing a program of off-site activities including the possibility of rock-climbing, mountain biking, aerobics and yoga. If there is enough interest in a particular activity which is suitable, then the PE department will do its best to organise it.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is offered to all Sixth Form students as an extra curricular activity. Previous experience at Bronze Level is very useful but not essential to beginning the Silver Award at The Harrodian. The award is an excellent means of developing self reliance and leadership qualities as well as introducing students to new and varied activities within their local community. Our aim is for the highly motivated Harrodian to have completed their Gold expedition before leaving for university.
Cultural activities include regular visits to galleries, museums, concerts, theatre and restaurants both in the local area and various departments have organised overseas trips to Iceland, Greece, Italy and France in order to supplement AS and A2 course content. The Young Enterprise scheme is also available to our Sixth Form students. The Sixth Form Ball is a popular and eagerly awaited annual celebration of success for the Upper Sixth.
