WELCOME BY THE HEADMASTER
Welcome to The Harrodian School and, in particular, to our very exciting Sixth Form now entering its fifth year. I am delighted that you are expressing an interest in joining our Sixth Form for your A Level studies and this prospectus is designed to help you make the right decisions about your future at The Harrodian, in Higher Education and beyond. At present, The Harrodian only offers A Level studies, so if you are an existing student and are interested in more vocational training or International Baccalaureate, you should speak to Dr Parmley for advice. Choosing your Sixth Form subjects can be a difficult decision, but you should find within these pages much that will help you to make the very best of your future. It will also give you an understanding of the opportunities, study environment and exciting atmosphere of The Harrodian Sixth Form.
In the Lower Sixth, most students study four AS Level subjects, (although some may pursue three or five). This will normally reduce to three A2 subjects in the Upper Sixth. You should consult widely with your teachers and parents about your interests and choices to ensure, as far as possible, that your combination of subjects will suit you well. The choices you make now could affect your career options in the future. Careers and university entrance advice will be readily available here and our programme of cultural, sporting and enrichment activities will broaden and enhance your experience.
As the most senior members of the student community, you will have many opportunities to develop your leadership skills, share ideas and responsibilities and make a significant contribution to school life. You may wish to join the Student Representative Council, take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or become a Director in a Young Enterprise Company. The Sixth Form at The Harrodian will enable you to enjoy our famous tradition of independence, whilst developing your individuality in a supportive environment.
These should be the best years of your school career and I hope that you will grow in confidence, not be afraid to risk being wrong, be tolerant enough to accept new ideas and to balance your judgements.
I wish you well as you consider the next stage of your education and I look forward to welcoming you to The Harrodian in the near future.
