The warmer weather in the Summer Term always facilitates outdoor learning. Our 8s and 9s pupils were able to benefit from this on trips to the London Wetlands Centre to support their learning of Science.

Both year groups had the chance to participate in pond dipping. These learning sessions provided them with the opportunity to catch and identify freshwater life using ID keys and magnifying equipment.

Our 8s were able to identify and look closely at the invertebrates that they had been learning about in class such as water boatmen, diving beetles and pond snails. Our 9s had the opportunity to explore the different stages of animal life cycles and to look for signs of new life, from damselfly and dragonfly nymphs to pond snail eggs and tadpoles.

Ours 8s particularly enjoyed identifying and learning about the wide variety of duck species that inhabit the Wetlands. Meanwhile a trail through ponds, lakes, wet woodlands and gardens helped our 9s to investigate the different habitats that the Wetlands provides for a wide variety of animals including otters.
