Head of Teaching and Learning (Lower School) - Sept. 2026 start

We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified, experienced and ambitious school leader to join the School in September.  As Head of Teaching and Learning (Lower School), you will be responsible for leading the strategic development and academic management and administration of teaching and learning across the Lower School (Reception to Year 6), ensuring that the teaching and learning components of the curricula are delivered to the highest standards and enabling pupils within the Lower School to fulfil their academic potential. You will have gained the knowledge and experience across your career to also be able to manage and offer guidance around areas such as recruitment, induction, probation, training and development, and planning.

There will be a reduced timetable teaching commitment, which will be confirmed once the timetable is completed. A Primary-trained teacher with a subject specialism, the successful candidate should be able to teach, inspire and nurture pupils across Years 4 to 6 in the Prep School in their learning. They should consistently model excellent practice, be exemplary in their professionalism and educational practice, have proven classroom management skills and be able to make a significant contribution to this busy and vibrant part of the School.  Please clearly state in your application which subject(s) you are able to teach and to what level.

In addition to the main teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to take on Duties, such as playground and lunch queue supervision, and be willing to play a full part in the co-curricular life of the Prep School, including having an enthusiasm and willingness to attend both day and residential trips, such as to museums, Roman villas, Bushcraft, Coastal and PGL, during term-time. Trips may take place during the week or at the weekend.

Senior Leadership Team

The intention is that, subject to potential to join the Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will be invited to sit on the SLT at the appropriate time. As a key member of the SLT, you will contribute significantly to the direction of the School, particularly with regard to its academic focus and the achievement of development plans within the Lower School, as well as playing a key role in supporting the operation of the School as a whole.

Working days and hours

This is a full-time, permanent position. Full-time working days and hours at Harrodian are Mondays from 08h00 to 17h00 and Tuesdays to Fridays from 08h15 to 17h00. Five staff training days are held over the year, at the start of the Autumn, October half, and Spring terms.  Term dates are published on the School's website.  

Salary and Benefits

The agreed teaching salary and Additional Responsibility Allowance will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Interview dates11th and 12th March.  As part of the interview process all candidates will be required to teach an academic lesson. Preparation work in advance of the class lesson will be required and details will be provided prior to interview.
