We are seeking an experienced and motivated teacher to join our Religious Studies and Philosophy Department for a full-time teaching role starting September 2025. The role will include teaching both Religious Studies and Philosophy at A Level and GCSE, as well as coordinating the Key Stage 3 curriculum, but will particularly focus on Key Stage 5 teaching.
In Religious Studies we teach the OCR A-level and the AQA GCSE. As a department, we specialise in teaching Christianity at GCSE and Buddhism as our religions. At A-level, our religion is Buddhism. Experience of teaching this would therefore be highly valued, although is not essential.
The successful candidate will also be teaching the AQA Philosophy A-Level. Candidates with a background in Philosophy, either teaching the A-Level or at degree level would be strongly preferred.
The successful candidate will need to be confident in delivering both the GCSE and A-Level curricula in an inspiring and professional manner. They will be thoroughly engaging and bring energy to the classroom, demonstrating excellent classroom management skills. We are looking for a teacher who consistently models excellent practice and can make a significant contribution to both the department and the school.
Given the role is one that primarily involves Key Stage 5 teaching, the successful candidate will be required to play a role in the larger life of the Harrodian Sixth Form; this would include acting as a UCAS mentor to students looking to study Philosophy and related subjects at university, and running or helping out with clubs such as the Philosophy Club or the Senior Debate Team. Additional opportunities to contribute will include running revision sessions, acting as our department's EDI liaison, and helping to promote the subject during open evenings and assemblies.
The Religious Studies and Philosophy Department is a vibrant and ambitious department within the school. We have a history of very strong results and are an active part of the wider school’s Humanities offer. The department has a strong interest in the use of technology in helping students in their education and a successful applicant will be one willing to engage with this, including optimising the use of our tech-driven materials, such as student iPads, within lessons.
Founded in 1993, the Harrodian is a co-educational school set on 25 acres of grounds with excellent facilities. Providing staff and students alike with a welcoming and exceptional learning environment, where small class sizes and high standards foster academic excellence, we value enthusiasm, adaptability and a commitment to student engagement across all ability levels. A sense of fun, responsiveness to individual learning needs, and an open approach to teaching are qualities we regard highly. Staff are also expected to contribute fully to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school, ensuring a holistic and enriching educational experience for all pupils. Teaching staff at Harrodian can therefore expect to lead a form and run lunchtime/after-school clubs as part of this contribution.
Working days and hours
This is a full-time, permanent position. Working hours during term time are: Mondays from 08h00 to 17h00 and Tuesdays to Fridays from 08h15 to 17h00.
Salary and Benefits
The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.
Harrodian offers a range of benefits, including a free car park (on a first come first served basis), a cycle to work scheme, free refreshments and lunches during term time, free access to some of the School’s sport and leisure facilities at stipulated times, access to an ongoing cycle of cultural, musical, theatrical and sporting talks and events, and a defined contribution pension scheme.
