Location & Transport

Harrodian is located between Hammersmith Bridge (currently closed for vehicles but open to pedestrians and cyclists) and Barnes Bridge on Lonsdale Road, along the south bank of the Thames. The nearest underground is at Hammersmith. The nearest overland rail station is Barnes Bridge, and buses stop very near our entry gates.

How To Get Here

Nearly all of our Pre-Prep Harrodian pupils are brought to school by their parents but many of our older children make their own way, travelling on foot or by bicycle, underground, train or bus. All children need to arrive by 08.30am in order to be registered promptly with their Form Tutors.

For pupils making their own way by public transport, the TfL site is the place to look for the most up to date information. Student discount forms for travel on public transport can be picked up from our main Reception.

By bus

Two buses travel from Hammersmith and Mortlake during the day, past the school or close by, these are the 419 and 533.

The 609 is a dedicated bus service especially for Harrodian but is temporarily out of service until Hammersmith Bridge reopens to traffic. (The bus travels directly from Hammersmith Bus Station to right outside the School. In the morning four of these buses leave Hammersmith Bus Station between the times of 07.45 and 08.15. In the afternoon, two return services to Hammersmith operate between the times of 16.20 and 16.50.)

By school coach

By Harrodian Minibus

From the south side of Hammersmith Bridge in Barnes to Harrodian:
Now that Hammersmith Bridge has re-opened to pedestrians, our Harrodian minibus will be used as part of a free shuttle service from the south side of Hammersmith Bridge. For further information please click here.

Central London minibus services
We also offer, at a charge, two morning door-to-door services from the Notting Hill/Kensington and Knightsbridge/Belgravia areas to the school. Areas covered are W2, W8, W11 and SW11, SW1, SW3 and SW7. For further information about these services please CLICK HERE.

On the underground

Hammersmith Underground Station is currently served by the District, Piccadilly, Circle and Hammersmith and City tube lines. As Hammersmith Bridge is open to pedestrians, it is possible to walk from the station to the school site (normally a 20/25-minute walk). Taking a bus or reserving a place on the minibus shuttle from the bridge are currently the best options to get from Hammersmith to the School.

By car

Some parking is normally available within the car park for parents who wish to drop their children off. The car park is located on the left of the main entrance gates and a car park attendant is on hand at all times if you have any queries. We ask all visitors to drive with great care and be mindful of pedestrians when entering and exiting the car park.

During busy times it may not be possible to park on the school site. There is plenty of parking in adjacent streets but with resident-only restrictions between the hours of 10.00am and 12 noon.

Car Share Scheme

We are very keen to make the School a safer and more environmental friendly place for all. One way we can do this is to reduce the amount of traffic around the school via a car share scheme.  If you would like to consider this, please register your interest by clicking here and completing the short questionnaire. We will then be in touch to confirm arrangements and put you in contact with other parents in your area.

For further details, please contact Captain Rob Stewart in the Senior Office.

By train

Barnes and Barnes Bridge Stations are served by frequent trains from Clapham, Waterloo and Richmond. On arrival at Barnes Bridge, pupils can take a 419 or 209 bus right outside the station which takes them close to the School in a few minutes.

On foot

Walking from Hammersmith takes approximately 20-25 minutes and from Barnes or Barnes Bridge stations between 15 and 20 minutes.

By bicycle:

Pupils may cycle to School (accompanied by a parent where necessary), locking their bikes securely away in a cycle rack. We advise all cyclists to wear helmets and high visibility garments at all times on their journey to and from School.
