Key information about the timings of the Harrodian school day and catering arrangements.
The week runs from Monday to Friday with eight 40-minute lessons each day in the Pre-Prep and seven 55-minute lessons each day in our Prep/Senior Schools and Sixth Form, a morning and lunch break, plus regular form time. Lunch break allows pupils to eat a balanced and nutritious meal and to participate in a wide range of clubs and activities.

Our chef, Josef, heads up the Harrodian catering team. Most of our children know him well because he serves them their food. His daily presence means that he is in tune with our children’s needs and preferences.
The School aims to provide pupils with a wide and nutritionally balanced diet because we understand how eating well allows us to be energetic and productive and is vital to our overall well-being. All meals are freshly cooked in our kitchens and locally sourced where possible.
In our dining room, a selection of fresh, good quality food is available and meals typically include a hot meat/fish or vegetarian option, soup, baked potatoes, extensive salad bar, dessert and fruit and fresh French bread in baskets on each table. Josef’s trademark dishes are Thai chicken curry, Macken Brother sausages and mash and chilli con carne.
We also cater for children with food allergies or other specific dietary requirements and aim to provide a nut-free environment.
Café / Snacks
The Harrodian café is a vibrant and social place at the heart of the school’s open door policy. Parents, pupils and staff meet here before school when it opens at 8am and again at the end of the school day. Sixth Form students use the café during their free periods to study and refuel. The space has a Parisian air and the menu emphasises all things French, predominantly pastries (croissants and pains au chocolat) and coffee but also healthy options like porridge, fresh fruit, freshly pulped fruit and vegetable juices, and herbal teas.
We also encourage healthy eating by asking pupils to bring in fruit or vegetable snacks (or other nutritious alternatives) from home for their morning break. Sugary drinks are not permitted. Bottles of water can be brought to school, kept on desks and replenished throughout the day. Water is provided at lunch time.
