Teacher of Religious Studies and Philosophy KS3 to KS5, primarily KS5 - Sept. 2026

We are seeking an experienced and motivated teacher to join our Religious Studies and Philosophy Department for a full-time teaching role starting September 2026. The role will be likely to include teaching some Key Stage 3 or 4 lessons but will primarily focus on Key Stage 5 teaching. The role will require teaching both the Religious Studies (OCR) and Philosophy (AQA) A-Levels.

In Religious Studies at GCSE (AQA), Christianity and Buddhism are our religions.  At A-level, our religion is Buddhism. Experience of teaching Buddhism would therefore be highly valued, although is not essential.  The successful candidate will also be teaching the AQA Philosophy A-Level. Candidates with a background in Philosophy, either teaching the A-Level, or at degree level, would be strongly preferred.

At Harrodian, our students' achievement and progress are at the forefront of our teaching. The successful candidate will need to be confident in delivering both the GCSE and A-Level curricula in an inspiring and professional manner. They will be thoroughly engaging and bring energy to the classroom, demonstrating excellent classroom management skills. We are looking for a teacher who consistently models excellent practice, is able to inspire and motivate pupils through a diverse range of teaching styles, and can make a significant contribution to both the department and the School. The department has a strongly collaborative culture and we are looking for a teacher who will fit well into this. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, teaching and assessment within the department.

Given the role is one that primarily involves Key Stage 5 teaching, the successful candidate will be required to play a role in the larger life of the Harrodian Sixth Form; this would include acting as a UCAS mentor to students looking to study Philosophy and related subjects at university, and running or helping out with clubs such as the Philosophy Club or the Senior Debate Team.  Additional opportunities to contribute will include running revision sessions, acting as our department's EDI liaison, and helping to promote the subject during open evenings and assemblies.

The Religious Studies and Philosophy Department is a vibrant and ambitious department within the school. We have a history of very strong results and are an active part of the wider school’s Humanities offer. Harrodian is transitioning to an iPad school and all Key Stage 3 and 4 students currently have them, so facility with this technology would be valued.

Working days and hours

Full-time working days and hours at Harrodian are Mondays from 08h00 to 17h00 and Tuesdays to Fridays from 08h15 to 17h00. Five staff training days are held over the year, at the start of the Autumn, October half, and Spring terms.  Term dates are published on the School's website.

Salary and Benefits

The agreed salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Harrodian offers a range of benefits, including a free car park (on a first come first served basis), a cycle to work scheme, free refreshments and lunches during term time, free access to some of the School’s sport and leisure facilities at stipulated times, access to an ongoing cycle of cultural, musical, theatrical and sporting talks and events, and a defined contribution pension scheme.
