Swindy's Greatest

David 'Swindy' Swindlehurst, graduated through the youth squad (playing for England's Under 18 and Under 21 sides) to the first team at Crystal Palace in the 1970s.  In 1979, he starred in the the excellent Palace side promoted to Division 1 – then the top level in English football.  This gallery contains pictures of highlights of a successful 15-year career playing as a forward at clubs including Crystal Palace, Derby, West Ham and Peterborough United.

He became Head of Football at Harrodian in 1995 and in the past quarter century he has overseen the growth of football at the school from a single First XI to a four-team structure in every year up to Sixth Form level. He describes the most exciting moment of his professional football career as the last match of the season in 1979 against Burnley, at Selhurst Park, when 52,000 fans watched Crystal Palace secure promotion to the First Division, then English football's top level.
