PP2 pupils enjoyed an immersive and memorable day stepping back in time to 1666 for a Great Fire of London workshop. Dressed in wonderful costumes, the children explored a range of themed stations in the Marquee, including an apothecary, bakery and a scrivener, where they made ink and practised writing with quills.

They also experienced traditional crafts such as weaving, candle making, leatherwork and pewter making all whilst dodging a few cheeky “rats” that caused much excitement and laughter! In the bakery, pupils kneaded dough and learned how Thomas Farriner’s bakery on Pudding Lane may have sparked the Great Fire.

A highlight of the day was the archaeological dig, where pupils sifted through “ashes” to uncover artefacts from the Great Fire.

Our wonderful adult helpers were incredible throughout the day, staying in character to make the experience even more authentic and engaging.

It was a joy to see the children so curious, enthusiastic and absorbed in their learning. A truly inspiring day that brought history vividly to life.
