30 Drama enthusiasts from the 8s, 9s and 10s took part in two entertaining performances that showcased their acting skills this month.
There are so many Harrodian pupils who are keen to get involved in drama that it's sometimes difficult to find parts for all of them in our formal productions. That's why, over recent years, the Drama department has initiated a programme of informal performances using minimal costumes, props and scenery that give a wide range of pupils real experience of performing to an audience.
The children did so well. They worked so hard, learnt a lot of lines and all produced fantastic performances... It all adds up to a fantastic learning experience of how a show is staged.

The latest of these Showcases – focused on Lower Prep pupils drawn from 8s through to the 10s (Years 4-6) took place in the Auditorium in early June. A cast of 30 pupils took part in two performances of six short scenes devised and directed by three of our Drama Staff: Demon Headmaster, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Cap, Lord of the Flies, Fantastic Mr Fox and James and the Giant Peach in front of an enthusiastic audience of parents, teachers and pupils.

Drama teacher Ms Natalie Ibbett was delighted both with the performances and by the enthusiastic reception the Showcase received. 'The children did so well. They worked so hard, learnt a lot of lines and all produced fantastic performances,' she enthuses. 'The Auditorium makes a great intimate space for them to perform in... It all adds up to a fantastic learning experience of how a show is staged and what it feels like to be part of the cast.'
