After the unique challenge of 2020-21 A Levels, two year groups of Harrodian Sixth Formers celebrated together at this year's special expanded Leavers' Ball.  Here we summarise this year's leavers destinations and showcase the Ball and Results Day in our galleries

When Harrodian A Level students gathered at the school to receive their A Level exam results on Tuesday 10th August the mood was as upbeat and sunny as the weather.  And with good reason. Despite all of the disruption caused by the pandemic and the challenges presented by remote working, 90 per cent of our Upper Sixth Formers succeeded in attaining their first choice destination this year, with 80 per cent of them gaining a place at a prestigious Russell Group University.

Our Upper Sixth continued the improving academic trend of the last ten years. The quality of their destinations is impressive and the broad range of their course choices reflects the continuing diversity of our students’ interests and aspirations

David Behan, Head of Sixth Form

David Behan, Head of Harrodian Sixth Form is delighted for his students. ‘I’m thrilled that so many Harrodians secured their first choice Higher Education destination after two two incredibly challenging years of education’, he said. ‘Despite the need to adapt to education online, our Upper Sixth students continued the improving academic trend of the last ten years. The quality of their destinations is impressive and the broad range of their course choices reflects the continuing diversity of our students’ interests and aspirations.’

Destinations and courses chosen by this Harrodian year group are certainly diverse. International universities feature strongly with five students going to America, four to Europe and one to Canada. In the UK, Bristol is the most popular choice followed by Edinburgh, Leeds, Exeter, Oxford and Cambridge, Durham, Bath and London. The range of subject choice ranges widely with Economics, Business, and Science leading the way but with English, History, Geography Art, Architecture, Psychology and Philosophy all continuing to feature strongly. You can read more details at the bottom of this article.

As you would expect, Harrodian marked the success of this latest A Level groups by staging a party or two. Prefects and Head Mentors were invited to a special dinner at Ham House Polo Club at the end of the summer term, above, while all Upper Sixth Formers attended the Leavers’ Ball at the School on Friday 3rd September. Thanks to the inevitable postponement of last year’s parties, in each case the party was double its usual size with 2020’s leavers also joining the celebrations.

Mr Behan and Ms Heller, Deputy Head of Sixth Form were both as pleased as punch to be able to run the event. ‘The joy of the evening was encapsulated by our brilliant staff band,’ Mr Behan says. ‘They played a big set, and following chants of “one more song”, were persuaded to stay on stage for many more than that. Nobody wanted it to end!’
