On the 23rd February our 10s year group enjoyed an extremely bracing but bright day out on a Geography Department trip which took them to Rushall Farm near Bradfield in Berkshire. The group were introduced to both the traditional and modern aspects of this mixed farm which accommodates organic beef and lamb production alongside bean and cereal arable crops.
They also discovered how the farm has diversified to pay its way in the modern age. Among the innovations that students saw on their tour were the traditional threshing barn which has now become an education centre and a venue for weddings and parties, a campsite and the duck pond which now doubles as a dipping area.
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the opportunity to see the farmer in lambing action. Most of the children got the opportunity to see a lamb born and everyone got to cuddle one of the new born lambs.
