Tatyana Niedinger, Head of Lower School Music, reviews this week’s concert which showcased the growing singing and instrumental skills of our oldest Pre-Preppers and younger Prep pupils
The Lower School Concert at Harrodian earlier this week was a joyful and vibrant celebration of music-making, showcasing the breadth of talent across the junior Prep in an atmosphere that was warm and uplifting.

The programme featured a mix of ensembles, solos and choir performances, with pupils demonstrating both instrumental and vocal skills across a wide range of genres and styles, from traditional music to jazz and rock, there was something for everyone. We enjoyed impressive solo performances on piano and drums kit, as well as a particularly memorable vocal solo from Aoife Doyle, whose confident and expressive singing truly captivated the audience.

The younger pupils brought great energy and charm to the stage. The Pre-Prep Percussion Band delighted everyone with ‘Los Machetes’, a playful Mexican-inspired piece. The Pre-Prep Choir gave a heartfelt performance of 'Hero' and the Lower School Choir followed with a spirited rendition of Try Everything, reminding us of one of the school’s ‘pillar’ values—resilience.

The Wind Band and String Group both performed with confidence and focus, showing not only their developing technique but also the musical togetherness that is essential to ensemble playing. A special mention goes to the PP3 pupils, who brought huge enthusiasm and enjoyment to their recorder performances.

The standard of presentation throughout the evening was excellent. Our student presenters, Olivia and Josep, were poised and professional, while 14s students, Xavi and Horace handled stage changes seamlessly. Thanks also to our dedicated music team, sound and lighting engineer, teachers, assistants and housekeeping staff, who all ensured the concert ran smoothly. It was a fantastic evening and a valuable experience for the children and their families.
