Having a Bash

Posted on: 24/05/2019

Harrodian enjoyed its first Cricket Festival this week. The event took inspiration from Australia's Big Bash League and involved 80 girls and boys from the 9s (Year 5) at Harrodian and six other schools: Barnes Primary School, Lowther School, St Stephen's School, Sheen Mount, St Osmund's and St. Peter's.

It was a fun event, enjoyed by pupils, staff and parents alike and for which the sun shone! The eight teams that took part were:

Harrodian Hurricanes
Barnes Primary Thunder
Lowther Renegades
St Stephen's Scorchers
Sheen Mount Sixers
St Osmund's Heat
St Peter's Strikers
St Stephens's Stars

The Festival raised the profile of cricket amongst our 9s (Year 5), giving them more exposure to the game and more opportunity to play it. The variety of different abilities and levels of experience amongst the teams made for both an exciting tournament and development opportunity.

Harrodian prides itself on its strong sense of community spirit and the Cricket Festival was a perfect example of this. Our U18 1st XI team umpired the games and gave the younger players some coaching and advice. Harrodian Seniors and Sports Leaders assisted each of the teams by directing them to their next matches and a group of sports staff from both Harrodian and the other primary schools worked together to make the event run as smoothly as possible.

St Stephen's School entered two teams into the competition and were the eventual winners of the Festival. With an average of 268 runs per game, it was their Scorchers team who were crowned the champions.

A big congratulations to them and we wish them luck in their borough tournament after half-term.
