Helping Hands

More acts of crisis-time generosity from the kindness of this year's departing Sixth Formers to the helpful guidance offered by a Harrodian alumna now working on the NHS front line

Harrodian alumnae and Medicine graduate (MBChB) from the University of Birmingham, Dr Enora Seite, below, extended her help this week by attending a pre-A-Level Science lesson with our 15s (Year 11) pupils on Google Classroom.

She answered questions on Google Classroom (below) about medical school from the process she went through to secure a place, to all her hopes and fears, challenges and enjoyable moments, as well as her plans for the future. She also made a 17-minute video answering questions that our 15s pupils had emailed her in advance.

Since graduating early in May, Enora has been working on the NHS frontline in Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham, helping treat patients of Covid-19.

It has also been endearing to see the kindness of our Sixth Formers and how they have been so eager to look after our younger pupils. Head Girl Arabella and her deputy Lauren, together with Upper Sixth Formers Amelia and Bella, have been volunteering their time to help the children who are now back at school. The girls have been supervising the Pre-Prep children at lunchtime and playing fun games with them during their breaks, below, as well as assisting 10s pupils during their lessons. They have also been helping Mr Proudfoot and Ms Foster to conduct sports lessons.

Last week Arabella and Lucy, together with fellow Harrodians Lucy and Bruno, decided to add some joy to our pupils' first day back when they serenaded Reception, PP1 and 10s pupils onto the school site, below. Arabella also made a guest appearance in an online Pre-Prep assembly, where she sang beautifully and also answered pupils' questions, as did Head Boy, Kristjan, who dressed up as Fester, below, and performed a song from The Addams Family, the Harrodian musical production that he starred in earlier this year.

Meanwhile PP2 pupil, Florence, and her mum have been making homemade scented candles at home in their kitchen, below.

PHOTO-2020-06-08-18-05-04-2.jpgThey have been collecting old recycling jars, melting wax, mixing bespoke blends, spray painting lids and decorating jars. Each candle is scented with a unique combination of aromatherapy blends and made with organic vegan wax. They are selling their candles (starting at £8 each), on their website www.candlesforcovid.co.uk in order to raise funds for the NHS and to reach their target of £2,000. They are hoping their aromatherapy candles will be seen as a symbol of hope and lit to honour those who have lost loved ones to the pandemic, as well as assisting with mental wellbeing. If you would like to get involved and volunteer your help then please email emma20@candlesforcovid.co.uk
