A Level Economics students embarked on a tour of the City of London this week that provided a vivid experience of what trading in stocks, bonds and currency really feels like

How does the City work? What has made London’s banks and its other financial markets, its commodity, foreign exchange and stock markets a hub of the UK’s economy? This week Harrodian’s A Level Economics students embarked on a trip to the City of London that explored these questions.

The day started with a walking tour of the City which looked at its history and its evolution into one of the world’s leading financial and trading centres. In the afternoon, students took part in a trading workshop which gave them practical experience of topics on their A level syllabus.

As well as learning what ‘hedge funds’ really do they also experienced an ‘open outcry’ which provided a taste of how stock markets work, what financial assets such as bonds and stocks really are and which also allowed students to test out their own practical skills by dealing these assets in a ‘trading pit’.
