A dozen Harrodian A-Level Politics students gained a fascinating insight into the inner workings of British politics, its law making and its human rights issues when they took part in a special visit to Westminster including the House of Commons and the Supreme Court in early July.

The trip took place thanks to the generous initiative of Sarah Olney, former Liberal MP for Richmond Park and recent visitor to the school, who helped Harrodian organise a private trip to Westminster because the normal education tours were all booked up.

Politics student Asia found the trip revealing. ‘Much of our studies is about looking at the structure and theory of politics so this was a great opportunity to see how it all works in reality,’ says Asia, who is planning to study Law at university.

Asia was also impressed by the group's visit to the HQ of human rights pressure group, Liberty, where they met Nazmul Hasan (Advice and Information Manager) who has a law degree and talked to students about how he came to work for the organisation. ‘I got a real insight into how accessible the process of government is to the general public and how a pressure group like Liberty sets about lobbying parliament and influencing the process of law making at the grassroots’ she says.
