The highlight of the 10s' annual Geography trip to Rushall Farm is always cuddling a new-born lamb

When our 10s year group embark on the annual Geography Department  trip to Rushall Farm near Bradfield in Berkshire, as they did in the last week of February, you know that Spring is not far away.

The highlight of their first Geography field trip is always the opportunity to see or hold a new-born lamb and everyone got the chance this time to cuddle one.

The group were also introduced to both the traditional and modern aspects of this mixed farm which accommodates organic beef and lamb production alongside bean and cereal arable crops.

Despite the wet weather, the children threw themselves into all of the activities including getting their hands really dirty feeling different types of soil. Some groups had the chance to feed the chickens and admire the pigs, whilst others dressed up as bees and plants to act out pollination.

They also discovered how Rushall farm has diversified to pay its way in the modern age. Among the innovations that pupils saw on their tour were the traditional threshing barn which has now become an education centre and a venue for weddings and parties, a campsite and the duck pond which now doubles as a dipping area.
