Learning by Doing

All of our Pre-Prep children have enjoyed outings this term.

Our Reception pupils enjoyed a trip to Windsor castle, where they watched the Changing of the Guard, looked around the building and the State Apartments and enjoyed a workshop about the different rooms and the jobs people had to do in the Castle during Victorian times. They all got to dress up and were knighted by Queen Medina!

PP1 visited Kew Gardens, where they learnt about flora, collected samples of different flowers as part of an artistic and scientific workshop and explored the hot greenhouses searching for tropical plants and fish. They also studied the cacti in the Princess Diana Conservatory and learnt all about bees from the Hive Installation.

PP2 examined habitats and life cycles at Painshill Park, where they took part in pond dipping and hunting for mini beasts. The group also enjoyed practising their team work skills by completing a blind-folded forest walk in pairs.

As part of learning about World War II, our PP3 pupils had the chance to experience being evacuated!

Dressed as 1940s evacuees, they were transported back in time on a trip to the Lincolnsfields Children's Centre. During the day they visited a replica 1940s home where they could see how a kitchen, living room, bedroom and washroom would have looked.

They watered plants on a 'Dig for Victory' allotment and experienced what it must have been like in the Blitz when the air raid siren sounded and they all had to take refuge in the centre's Anderson Shelter. The children all listened respectfully whilst, Stan, a 95 year old war veteran shared some of his stories about being in the Second World War.
