This year’s Harrodian Dance Show, And the Winner Is…, transformed the Theatre into a celebration of movie magic on Tuesday 18 November. Inspired by iconic films and soundtracks, pupils from PP3 to Upper Sixth, aged 8 to 18, performed a lively mix of group pieces and solos that captured the excitement of a true movie night and brought classic and modern favourite films to life.

For the first time, our PP3 children joined the show, performing a lively Footloose routine after a term of rehearsals in their after-school club led by Upper Sixth student Athina, whose enthusiasm and contribution helped create a welcoming debut for the youngest dancers on the programme. Older pupils followed with performances from the 8s (Year 4) through to Upper Sixth, each interpreting a different film or soundtrack.

One of the evening’s standout moments was James D’s (13s/Year 9) creative solo, Name That Movie, where he blended choreography from Ghostbusters, The Power of Love and Thunderstruck while the audience tried to guess each title. Other highlight solos included 10s pupil Estee's emotional performance to When the Party’s Over, Upper Sixth student Athina’s dramatic interpretation of both Dream Girls and Jaws, and Ethan from the 14s (Year 10) with his upbeat routine inspired by Saturday Night Fever.

Among the group pieces, the 10s Dance Club delivered a particularly memorable routine to the Back to the Future film tune. Their dance teacher and show organiser, Ms Alice Jarvis, expressed how proud she is of their commitment, saying, “They have come to every rehearsal this term and really focused. They are a small group, but they work incredibly hard and support one another brilliantly.”

Other groups brought well-known soundtracks to life with energy and imagination, including the 8s dancing to a remix of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, the 9s taking on Mission Impossible and the 11s performing to Interstellar. Popular modern favourites such as Barbie, Frozen and Descendants were also interpreted by pupils in smaller groups across different age groups.

Ms Jarvis is also keen to thank Upper Sixth student Athina for her help throughout the term and Miss Pegram for assisting in bringing the whole show together. The evening closed with a crowd-pleasing teachers’ performance to Pirates of the Caribbean, featuring a standout appearance by Soares, our much-loved school café barista, which proved to be a favourite moment for pupils in the audience.

The event was a fantastic celebration of creativity, teamwork and the enthusiasm of pupils and staff alike. A big thank you to all the Harrodian dancers who took part!
