Making Rainbows

A beautiful mural made of different shaded monochrome self portraits and another rainbow created by vividly dressed Harrodian pupils formed the twin focal points for Harrodian’s Pride Day celebrations

Conceived and ‘commissioned’ from Prep group pupils by Head of Prep Art Ms Emily Rees early in the Summer term, the mural was displayed along the dining room veranda and made a vivid centrepiece for a vibrant day

Meanwhile, for their mufti costume each of our five Prep school year group dressed in a different coloured t-shirt  then each group took their places to create a rainbow shape on the field (see poster attached). The film above captured by our drone camera illustrates the effect.

Pride is more than a celebration. It allows us to actively live out the inclusivity, respect, and compassion we hold dear. Having worked here for many years, it fills me with joy to be part of such a supportive community

These were largely organised by volunteer Senior students and the same applied to the assemblies with the Prep  presentation delivered by Ioanna who partnered up with fellow Sixth Former, Alfie, to deliver the Prep version.

Girls pride

Other Pride Day features included anLGBTQ+ role models display board and an ‘Ally Pledge’ wall where people could write and stick up supportive messages like 'Be You', 'Love is Love' 'Be Happy'.

It all made for a day of fun which spread plenty of pleasure through the school. Deputy Head of Sixth Form Martha Kinsella is in no doubt of its significance. ‘It’s more than just a celebration. It allows us to actively live out the inclusivity, respect, and compassion we hold dear,’ she says ‘Having worked here for many years, it fills me with joy to be part of such a supportive community.’
