The full range of Harrodian's musical talent was on display at the Autumn concert on the 10th November
The Autumn Concert, Harrodian’s first musical event in two years since the Carol Concert in 2019, was high in emotion and excitement. Headmaster Mr Hooke, the Music department and performers were clearly thrilled to be back in the Theatre to listen to and participate in live music again. Despite being a shorter programme than previous years, Harrodian’s musical output showed an extraordinary range and variety so it's no surprise that this year’s concert was an event that kept its audience guessing.
From popular music – Jonas Blue’s ‘Rise’ performed by the Training choir, complete with clapping and clicking fingers, James Bay’s ‘Hold Back the River’ sung by the 10s choir and Rocco’s vocal/piano performance of Aviici’s ‘Ten More Days’ – to musicals – a duet from The Prom sung by 15s girls Alexandra and Immie, ‘Solla Sollew’ from Seussical! sung by the 8s and 9s choir, and Sondheim’s ‘Sunday’ from Sunday in the Park with George performed by our Sixth Form Chamber Choir to classical and jazz greats with Brahms’s ‘Hungarian Dance’ played by the orchestra, Bach’s ‘Sinfonia from Cantata No. 156’ performed by Sophia on the oboe and the Jazz Band’s rendition of Conti’s ‘Gonna Fly Now’ – this was a concert that had something for everyone.
For all the range on offer, what all the music did have in common was the quality and confidence of its performance and the exuberance and joy of its delivery. It seems that Harrodians, from young singers in the Pre-Prep Choir to Senior duettists and from solo pianists to the Jazz Band, just love to give a performance.
A special thank you to all our performers, to our soloists/duetists – Rocco (14s) voice/piano, Matthias (14s) piano, Sophia (14s) oboe, Alexandra and Immie (15s) voice, Aimon (14s) piano and to our Lower Sixth compères for the evening - Romi, Grace, Scarlett and Amber (below).
