Speaking up

Posted on: 08/02/2018

This year's Public Speaking competition has been of such high standard. All pupils in our 8s (Year 4) to 13s (Year 9) took part. Tasked with researching and writing a speech on a topic of their choice and delivering this to the rest of their class, every single one of them rose to the challenge. Each form faced a hard decision when asked to select one speaker to be their representative in the competition. Once chosen, our finalists took to the Theatre stage and presented their speeches in front of an expert judging panel, as well as their entire year group.

A huge thank you to the following Harrodian parents for giving up their time to judge: Will Kemp, actor; Lisa Reed, journalist and writer for the national press; Tom Bergin, a business journalist for Reuters; and Emma Freud, broadcaster and cultural commentator. Our Head Girl, Samantha, and Sixth Form student, Alexandra, joined the judging panels, as did Dr Parmley, Senior School Principal, and Mr Roets, Head of 11s, all four offering constructive and valuable feedback.

A first, second and third place were awarded in each of the three-age group categories. They were:
