Choirs and soloists, instrumentalists, ensembles and orchestras...they all got their chance to perform their party pieces in this term's Spring Concert.
The Spring Concert is always a great opportunity to showcase the wide range of musical talent at Harrodian. From classic to contemporary, jazz and soul standards, along with a touch of musical theatre and pop, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
This year’s event was compèred by Head Girl Tatiana and Senior Prefect Isla, who kept the audience amused with their music-related jokes. The programme also highlighted some remarkable, but often under represented, female composers, including Florence Price, whose work was performed by the orchestra.
The evening featured two standout performances from our Upper Sixth musicians, both of whom are planning to study music at university. Daisy gave a flawless rendition of “What Baking Can Do” from Waitress, while Rocco performed his original composition, “Twilight,” accompanied by his band.
Our Pre-Prep choir, dressed in shimmering party outfits, gave a lovely performance of “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music, delighting the audience with their singing and handbell playing.
Troy (11s) delivered a unique Music Tech performance, using the sound of a pinging wine glass as a sample to create a live, on-stage composition. It was a first-of-its-kind performance and truly engaging.
The Sixth Form Chamber Choir, conducted by Ms. Harriet Wu, who joined the Music Department earlier this year, gave a beautiful performance of Rutter’s For the Beauty of the Earth.
Finally, our Jazz Band closed the evening with a fantastic rendition of “April in Paris” by Duke Vernon, led by Mr. Dan Hester, one of our newest peri music tutors, who teaches Jazz Drums and Orchestral Percussion.
The Spring Concert is always an emotional occasion, as it marks the final performance of our Upper Sixth musicians. Over the years, we’ve been treated to countless outstanding performances from them, but next term they will begin their study leave in preparation for their A Levels. At the end of the concert, Mr. Hooke invited all of them on stage to share their favourite Harrodian musical memories with the audience, above.
A huge thank you to the Music department for a fantastic concert.
