In June our 12s pupils travelled to Newquay, surf capital of the south-west, for a five-day residential trip packed with watersports and other fun activities.
The trip to the The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, a 5-minute walk from the beach, included surfing and bodyboarding lessons, coasteering, Stand Up Paddleboarding, kayaking, a surf survivor/open water safety course, beach games such as volley-ball, rounders and football.
The group also enjoyed a movie night at The Lighthouse Cinema, hotel entertainment and games, as well as some free time and a special awards ceremony on the final evening.
The great thing about this end-of-year residential trip is how it rewards our 12s for all their hard work over the academic year and marks the end of their time in the Upper Prep before they move into the Seniors in September

When asked what he enjoyed about the trip, 12s pupil Orson is only too keen to communicate his enthusiasm. 'I loved the coasteering and leaping off the rocks, some of which must have been about five metres high. It was definitely the best trip at Harrodian so far and I have been here since the 9s (Year 5).

It was all about the surfing for Amber who says,'I loved the surfing lessons, I can stand up on the board now and feel much more confident, it is definitely something I am going to try and continue on family holidays. It was really fun to spend time with friends and teachers away from school and getting to know other girls and boys from different classes and sets that I don't normally have lessons with, was an added bonus.'

Emma Gregorie, leader of trip and 12s Head of Year sees the five-day residential trip as an essential exercise for the year group. "The great thing about this end-of-year residential trip is how it rewards our 12s for all their hard work over the academic year and marks the end of their time in the Upper Prep before they move into the Seniors in September. It also frees us (the staff) and children from the physical or social formality of the classroom and is a great way to have fun all together. The children have the chance to solidify friendships but also build new ones, and this helps to create an even more friendly and cohesive year group who are ready to welcome new pupils into the 13s.'
