Oxford1%20copy.jpgEighteen Harrodians with aspirations of studying at Oxford took an inspiring taster tour of the city and several of its colleges on a trip to the university in mid-November.

The visit which was led by Head of Sixth Form, Mr Behan and Maths teacher and UCAS Co-ordinator, Ms White, began at Balliol where the group enjoyed a tour of the college, an introduction to the application process and lunch in the ancient and spectacular dining room.

After lunch they took a walking tour of the City, stopping off at university departments and city landmarks including the Maths institute, the Engineering and Science buildings, the Pitt Rivers Museum, and the Bodleian Library (shown in the photograph above).

Along the way, the group hooked up with five Old Harrodians who are all current undergraduates and post-graduates at assorted Oxford colleges:  Coco Cottam (studying English at Keble College), Geronimo Hayaux Du Tilly (Architecture  and Anthropology, St Hugh’s ), Sonia Luchinskaya (Biochemisty, Exeter College), Gonzalo Castellanos de Campos (Chemistry, Jesus College) and Chris Wheeler( Engineering, Somerville).

I liked being accompanied by ex-Harrodians, it made the whole trip feel a lot more light-hearted and personal and it also shows how people at Harrodian are very much capable of getting into Big-shot universities and study such a wide varieties of subjects

Flavio, Harrodian SixthFormer

These five alumni shared insights into the character and atmosphere of their particular colleges and answered questions about studying, socializing and all sorts of other aspects of life in the 'City of Dreaming Spires’.

'The trip really changed my perspective, and seriously inspired me to apply to Oxbridge,' says Lower Sixth Form student Flavio, 'I liked being accompanied by ex-Harrodians, it made the whole trip feel a lot more light-hearted and personal rather than being on a tour with someone who hasn't been in our exact shoes, and it also shows how people at Harrodian are very much capable of getting into big-shot universities and study such a wide varieties of subjects, from Aeronautical Engineering to Anthropology.'
