This year's Autumn Concert ranged across Harrodian's musical talent and taste from Abba to Wilson Pickett and from Mozart to 'The Duke', taking in orchestras and jazz bands, choirs and solo artists.
Catering for a wide range of musical tastes and ages, this year's concert showed an extraordinary variety that kept the audience guessing.
From popular music – Abba's 'Super Trouper' performed by the Sixth Form Chamber Choir or Woody (14s) and Oliver 's (L6) vocal/acoustic guitar performance of 'Blackbird' by The Beatles – to musicals – solos from The Waitress, Cats and Thoroughly Modern Millie sung by Daisy (15s), Alexandra (L6) and Sophie (14s), and choir performances of well known numbers from The School of Rock (8s and 9s choir), Billy Elliott (The Training Choir - 11s and 12s) and Rent (Senior Choir 13s - 15s) to classical and jazz greats with Mozart’s ‘Eine Kleine Nacht Muzik’ played by the orchestra and the Jazz Band’s rendition of Duke Ellington's 'It Don't Mean a Thing,' and Wilson Pickett's 'In the Midnight Hour' – the programme was both diverse and accessible.
For all the range on offer, what all the music did have in common was the quality and confidence of its performance and the exuberance and joy of its delivery. It seems that Harrodians, from young singers in the Prep Choirs to Senior members of the Jazz Band, just love to give a performance.
Thank you to all our performers, in particular our soloists and duettists, and to our engaging Upper Sixth compères for the evening - Romi, Grace, Scarlett and Amber (below).
