Last week, our PP3s travelled back in time to the Stone Age last week on a special historical trip to Gunnersbury Park and Museum.
The day gave our pupils the chance to explore and experience life in Stone Age Britain through outdoor learning, to understand the importance of nature for human survival, and to discover why changes occurred to Stone Age people’s lifestyles and technology over time.
Our PP3s were able to see and handle original and replica prehistoric artefacts from the museum’s collection. They were amazed to see a Woolly Mammoth’s tooth, found by Hammersmith Bridge! After learning about different tools and survival skills they headed off into the park to experience life as a hunter-gatherer. The children identified sources of fuel and food, tried to hit a wild boar target with a bow and arrow, learnt how to use a saddle quern to grind corn, built a shelter out of logs and tried their hand at wattle and daub.
As well as this the children had time to learn about, and explore Gunnersbury House and museum. They had great fun in the Fashion room where they were allowed to dress up in old-fashioned clothing. They also learnt about local history and how London has grown and developed over the last 200 years.
