On Saturday 5 February London LitSoc, a book club for kids run by the organisers of the Barnes Children's Literature Festival, will launch its first event.

It will be staged at John Colet Hall at St Paul's School from 2.00pm until 3.15pm and will welcome authors MG Leonard and Sam Sedgman. They will talk about their book Danger at Dead Man's Pass but will also be giving a preview of their new one, Sabotage on the Solar Express, which is being published on 17 February. Both books are suitable for readers aged 9-12 years old.

LitSoc is all about sharing a love of reading for fun.

Every month the society will choose a book to read and then they will get together with the author to hear great stories, and find out more about their wonderful characters and messages.

Some of the books chosen will be written by the biggest names in kids’ books, a few exciting new voices and a couple of classics so you can bring a copy you may already have, or borrow one from your school or local library.

At LitSoc there will be a chance to discover new authors and genres, hobnob with the writers you’ve been reading, share your ideas and ask your own questions in a warm and welcoming space in Barnes.
