This year our librarians came up with the idea of an 'extreme reading challenge.' Teachers brought their classes to look at the photo entries which were displayed in the Main Hall and pupils came of their own accord to look during break times.

Pupils brought in favourite books to swap together with £1 for Book Aid International and plenty of business was done even before registration had started. Our 11s (Year 7) pupils looked great dressed in character and enjoyed a fun reading quiz in their English lessons.

As usual, teaching departments excelled themselves with their dressing up feats: English took on James and the Giant Peach, for Science it was Alice in Wonderland, Spanish got all moody and serious with The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca.

Our Lower Prep pupils will be bringing in their World Book Day creations next week and these will also be displayed outside the Junior Library in the Main Hall. The 8s (Year 4) have made shoebox bedrooms for their favourite book characters, our 9s (Year 5) a character's bag, and our 10s (Year 6) a setting or scene from their favourite story. The children also write descriptions to go with their craft creations and include some clues so that their peers can guess which book characters or stories they have chosen.

Congratulations to the Librarians and the English Department for defying the weather to stage another memorable celebration of the enduring  joys of books and reading.
