After seeing Windsor Castle looking so beautiful in the media coverage of the Royal Wedding, our Reception pupils were only too thrilled to visit it in person.

The trip was organised by their teachers to enhance their class topic of castles. They watched the Changing of the Guard, looked around the building and state rooms and enjoyed a workshop about the history of the castle and its people.

PP1 also benefitted from an off-site trip with plenty of outdoor learning. They visited Kew Gardens, where they looked around the jungle plants in the hot greenhouse, the cacti in the Princess Diana Memorial and also learnt all about bees from The Hive.

They then took part in a dedicated learning session with one of the teachers at Kew, who taught them all about about seasonal changes and how plants/leaves change from one season to another. This was followed by a hunt for seeds, petals and leaves that had fallen from the surrounding plants/trees. The children stuck these onto card, in order to make a colour chart. They then used this as a guide when drawing some beautiful flowers and plants with pastel crayons.
