Harrodian alumnus and outstanding pianist, Zachary Davies returned to his alma mater last week to perform a Mozart recital

A packed audience of teachers, students, friends and fans greeted pianist Zachary Davies on his return to Harrodian this week for a virtuoso lunchtime recital of one of Mozart's more challenging piano pieces, the 20-minute long Sonata in B Flat Major (K333). Zach has spent the last three years studying a BA in Music at Kings College, London and, as well as providing Harrodian music lovers with a special treat, the recital also served as a final rehearsal for Zach's graduation performance of the piece which takes place in three weeks time. 'Mozart's piano music means a lot to me,' he explains. 'I sustained an injury to my hands in February last year and Mozart was the music I was recommended to learn when I was regaining my technique.'

Zach was a star performer in many concerts during his time at Harrodian, as the picture of the Spring Concert in 2018, below, illustrates. He believes both his eclectic taste – which ranges from Mozart and Chopin to Ennio Morricone and Dave Brubeck – and his passion for music owe much to his mentors at Harrodian. 'I liked the open mindedness of the music department. It really allowed me to pursue my own interests in music to a high level,' he says. 'I'm very grateful to Ms Ashe (above) and my piano teacher, Alison Holford.'

Zach has had his heart set on a career in music since the age of 14 and his degree years at Kings have fed his ambitions to enter a conservatoire. 'I will be applying to several conservatoire Masters courses in composition this year,' he says,  'And this summer I will be very busy composing pieces to display in my portfolio. I'm hoping my career in music could take many forms – as a pianist, composer, arranger and a teacher.'
