Hosted by the parents' association (HSPA), our Harrodian Charity Quiz Night was another fantastic evening of fun, facts and fundraising. Under the watchful eye of Emma, quizmaster for the evening, 19 teams consisting of parents and/or staff competed for the coveted Harrodian Quiz Night Trophy.

Josef, our school chef, cooked a delicious Thai curry that was served by our fantastic Head Girl, Head Boy, their deputies and the Charity Prefects. A cash bar, together with ticket prices, raised money for Pancreatic Cancer Action.

A group of Harrodian mums, aka The Ladykilas, who are also raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action (as one of five chosen charities) were welcomed to the stage (below) by Mr Hooke to talk about their fundraising climb up Mount Kilimanjaro.

This year, a new Question of Sport round made for great entertainment. Sporting legends Matt Dawson, retired rugby union player and Jamie Mackie, footballer for Oxford United, captained opposing teams. Special guests were Kim Hagger, former Olympian heptathlete, playing on Matt's team and Kate Slatter, former Olympian rower, playing on Jamie's team.

Guests were able to bid for a place on either the Dawson or Mackie team. Two Harrodian dads were the lucky ones drawn at random to join each team. Mr Hooke stood in for Sue Barker and hosted a quick-fire buzzer round of general knowledge questions. One of his questions related to a member of the Sports staff - Mr Ian Butcher - a first-class cricketer, and regular opening batsman for Leicestershire during the 1980s, who Harrodian has been lucky enough to have on its cricket coaching team for the last ten years.

Quizmaster Emma led a 'Sprint Finish' round where both captains had two minutes to act out as many sporting terms as possible for their team mates to guess, much to the amusement of the audience.

The results were tense with just one mark between them. Jamie Mackie's team clinched a win in a Question of Sport but it was a group of Prep, Senior and Sixth Form parents who stole victory from the teacher's team (and two other parent teams) to raise the trophy.

A big thank you to our Events Committee, our Sixth Formers and housekeeping team who all helped on the evening and to all the parents and staff who attended and supported this event.
