We asked parents on Harrodian's Classlist.com account to share pictures of their lockdown activities and projects with us via our Twitter feed. The response this generated revealed that Harrodians of all ages have been inspired by the pandemic both to gestures of support and solidarity and to acts of kindness and charity.
(We're looking for more stories to feature both on Twitter and through the Harrodian Website, please read more at the end of this article).
Moved by the efforts of our key workers, George (11s) and Grace (8s) produced terrific artwork to demonstrate their support for the NHS (top) . Meanwhile, Sarah Lees, who works in Harrodian's Senior Office, set out to raise morale in Britain's embattled care homes by sending postcards to over 35 of them over the holidays, below.
Among others who responded were the parents of Beau, above and below, who, as well as helping his mum distribute leaflets offering help to local people in isolation, decided to give away two unwanted scooters to local children.
The Sully family, including Harrodian pupils Coco, Cass and Flynn, are running together to raise money for NHS Charities Together, Trussell Trust and Women’s Aid by taking it in turns on their treadmill, below, to run 100 kilometres over a 24 hour period. They started their challenge on 24th April and are already close to raising £6,000. If you would like to support them please click here.
Alex in the 13s, below, created and printed a magazine with fun facts about his pet guinea pigs and amusing tips on how to entertain them in lockdown, distributing hard copies to all the kids in his street, posting the magazine on-line via the local What's App group. To accompany this he then produced a number of videos of his pets to help entertain the children.
Florence and Isobel (from Harrodian PP2) are also entertaining their neighbourhood. Every day, they have dressed up two enormous teddy bears and popped them into their mum’s red Fiat 500 which is parked on their street. The car has become a 'tourist attraction' for local children who now make daily trips to see what the bears are doing or wearing!. The pictures feature a day when the bears were ready, dressed for school in their Harrodian uniforms and another when they were sound asleep. With their popularity growing, the bears now even have their own Instagram account (@bearsinfiat500).
