We asked parents on Harrodian's Classlist.com account to share pictures of their lockdown activities and projects with us via our Twitter feed. The response this generated revealed that Harrodians of all ages have been inspired by the pandemic both to gestures of support and solidarity and to acts of kindness and charity.
(We're looking for more stories to feature both on Twitter and through the Harrodian Website, please read more at the end of this article).
Moved by the efforts of our key workers, Leo (PP2) produced a short animation and voice-over as a thank you message to the NHS.
To view Leo's message please click here.
He also helped his family to make a beautiful rainbow from balloons, which decorated one of the windows on the outside of his house, above.
Meanwhile, Daisy (11s/Year 7) has been making it her weekly mission to bake cup cakes for the elderly in her local community and to deliver them. She has received many thanks including the cards below.
Ella-May (PP3/ Year 3) has been making scrubs bags for the NHS - as part of an initiative led by The Crafthouse in Sheen. Children with sewing machines at home, have been able to join in free online sew-a-longs and so far they have sewn over 50 scrubs bags for Putney Neuro, London Ambulance and Kingston Hospital. If you or your child would like to get involved and would like to find out more information, please click here.
The list of creative ideas doesn't stop here! Jamie (11s/Year 7) has been holding online Lego building classes for his little brother, Jack, and some of his classmates who are all in Reception. Jamie created and designed a webpage, below, as well as planning the Lego building sessions himself. Already familiar with Google Classroom and remote learning, Jamie used 'Google Meet' as his chosen platform to conduct his lego building lessons, but this time as a teacher rather than a pupil! His brother's friends loved the classes and are hoping Jamie might hold some more in the half-term holiday.
The Forshaw family, including current Harrodian Perdey and her brother Cassius and sister Hero, both former Harrodian pupils, have been rowing a marathon together to raise money for NHS Charities Together. They took it in turns on their rowing machine in the garden, below. They rowed a total of 26.2 miles and have raised just over £400 so far. Please help us tell the Harrodian lockdown story
Many thanks to those of you who have sent us pictures and stories via our #KidsKindActs hashtag at (https://twitter.com/HarrodianNews). Please do keep them coming. The closure of our site and buildings means that, for the moment, our News Hub is short of a crucial ingredient, the pupil experience. So we are keen to gather pupil and parent stories for publication on Twitter and our Website, If you have a story you are happy to share with us in words and pictures, please do let us know by sending it to us with highest possible res pictures and confirmation that you are happy for it to be published and we will get in touch at website@harrodian,com.
Examples might include:
- community-focused or individual acts of kindness or voluntary charity by pupils and families
- virtual learning tasks that have inspired your child to produce outstanding work
- initiatives and ideas from your children or their classes that have caught your imagination
Many thanks and good luck!
