Dressing up as a scientist and taking part in exciting experiments always makes for a fun and engaging Pre-Prep Science Day and this year was no exception.
The day was led by a company called Hands On Science whose instructors inspired the children with some eye catching experiments that ranged from flotation to fireworks.
After an assembly together, in which all the children showed off their costumes, each class was treated to a special workshop.
Reception learnt about how and why things float or sink and had the chance to test this out.
PP1 children learnt about habitats and how living creatures adapt to their environment and how camouflage is used for survival. They created their very own butterflies and habitats to see how well they could hide them.
Our PP2 pupils learnt about the pressures on many of our habitats and the importance of maintaining diversity in the health of individual species on our planet, with a special focus on bees and food chains.
The PP3s were introduced to the periodic table and learnt about some of the common elements. They watched how the flame of a Bunsen burner changed colour depending on the element put into the flame, like copper that turned it green. They were then able to link this to the colour of fireworks.
Both PP3 classes also conducted their own experiments by standing on eggs to see whether they broke or not.
Special thanks to Mrs Naudi (Pre-Prep Science Co-ordinator) and the team for organising such a great day.
