Harrodians were in celebratory mood on Thursday 21st August as this year’s GCSE results revealed another outstanding set of achievements across the board.
Building on the momentum of last week’s A Level triumphs, our GCSE cohort has delivered the school’s strongest results yet (not including Covid years). Headline figures include an Average Point Score (APS) of 7.5, up from 7.3 in 2019, and 77% of all grades at 9–7, an increase from 72% pre-Covid.
Amongst the many highlights, one pupil achieved 10 straight grade 9s and a further five pupils gained all 9s and 8s across their subjects. Yet it is the success across the year group as a whole that is most striking, with a wide range of individual achievements reflecting the determination of our pupils — something that Headmaster Mr Hooke is keen to emphasise when he says:
“We are immensely proud of our pupils, not only for their dedication to their studies but also for the way they balance such academic commitment alongside a wide spectrum of extracurricular pursuits and personal passions. Harrodians are consistently recognised as well-rounded, personable, and valued members of the school community — qualities that make their academic success all the more impressive.”

What also makes these outcomes notable is that they have been achieved across a broad curriculum and within an inclusive community. With 26 subjects offered at GCSE, pupils succeed across a wide range of disciplines, supported by a school culture that nurtures ambition and achievement for every child, including those who begin their Harrodian journey in the earliest years and progress all the way through to our Seniors.

In compulsory subjects taken by the whole cohort, such as English Literature and Mathematics, pupils achieved outstanding results, with around 85% attaining grades 9–7 in English Literature and 80% in Mathematics. Performance was also strong in other high-entry subjects: in Geography, more than 83% of grades were at 9–7. Across the separate sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), close to 80% of grades were at 9–7, while pupils who took Combined Science also performed strongly, with more than half of grades at this level. In addition, pupils excelled in a wide range of optional subjects, with Latin, Classics, Music, Film Studies and Religious Studies all recording exceptional success, including 100% of pupils attaining grades 9–7 in several of these disciplines.

Reflecting on the results, Head of Seniors Rob Stewart adds, “This year’s results demonstrate the application, resolve, hard work, and mutual support that define our school. Our students are not only high achievers, but part of a strong, supportive academic Seniors community - we are incredibly proud of all of them.”
